Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s approach to Beethoven takes us to the
raison d’être of the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique,
summoning the extraordinary originality of music which was first
thrust before an audience in the wake of the French Revolution and at
the dawn of the Romantic era. The orchestra’s recording of the
famous Fifth Symphony has been described (by Gramophone Magazine) as a
“tour de force… played at white heat”, and the Seventh as
“glorious” and “magnificent”; these concerts will give
audiences the chance to experience the full cycle of symphonies
alongside Beethoven’s only ballet, The Creatures of Prometheus. John
