Jane Addams Hull-House Museum Gender & Sexuality Public Tour
Wednesday & Friday 3:00p

Bring Chicago history out of the closet! Join us for a tour of Hull-House and explore early 20th century stories of gender non-conformity, diverse definitions of family, and fierce self-expression. Hull-House was world-renowned for supporting immigrants and world peace, but did you know it paved the way for LGBT rights? We will address the question, “Was Jane Addams a lesbian?” and consider the historic context that complicates both the answer and the question itself. On this participatory tour, we will explore historic artifacts and contemporary conversations. We will consider how history connects with today’s struggles for social justice and how we might expand our own notions of gender and sexuality.

FREE Public Tours are offered Tuesday - Friday & Sunday at 10:00am and 3:00pm. Please note that public tours can only accommodate a maximum of 25 visitors and the latest admittance time is 15-minutes after each tour beings. Visitors are encouraged to pre-register below to ensure a spot. We ask groups of 10 or more to schedule a separate facilitated tour through our Group Tours page. For more information on our other Public Tour offerings please visit our Public Tours page on our website.
