Symposium Description:                                                                                                                          

This biennial symposium was created in honor of Donna Goll Allen, a young woman who passed away in her journey with diabetes. The purpose of the symposium is to promote a better understanding of diabetes and its complications for current and future healthcare professionals to improve the quality of life for people living with diabetes.

Target Audience:

Healthcare providers including nurses, dietitians, case managers, pharmacists, social workers, physicians, physical therapists and occupational therapists who care for people living with diabetes. 

Amenities:

Continential Breakfast and Lunch are included in the price of admission. 

Continuing education credit awarded (see details below)*.                                              

Enjoy our Specialty Basket Raffle! One FREE Raffle Ticket is included in the price of admission. Additional tickets can be purchased on site at the Symposium for $1 each or 6 tickets/$5.                                                        

Raffle proceeds will be donated to Children's Diabetes Camp.

Temperature in Conference Center may vary, sweater or light jacket recommended.

Objectives:

  1. Review the treatment of diabetes from discovery to present time.
  2. Recognize the advances in diabetes care and management for the pediatric patient.
  3. Understand common Maternal-Fetal Medicine diabetes conditions and treatment.
  4. Review concepts of carbohydrate controlled meal planning for patients living with diabetes.
  5. Decribe the medical conditions and treatment options for diabetes and urinary problems.
  6. Recognize the emotional and behavioral aspects of living with diabetes.

*Continuing education will be offered for Nurses, Dietitians and PT/OT.

Advocate Health Care is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation           (OBN-001-91) (OH-368, 10/1/2017)

Continuing Nursing Education Hours: 6.5 CEU's (pending approval) will be awarded upon successful completion of this program.

Continuing Dietitian Education: 7.0 CEU's will be awarded upon successful completion of this program.

Continuing Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist Education: 6.0 CEU's will be awared upon successful completion of this program.

Criteria for Successful Completion:

Attendance of the entire event is required. Evaluations will be completed and ONA certificate available at www.advocatehealth.com/nurse.
