Description Note: This is a blended learning course. Please be
prepared to spend 6-8 hours to complete eLearning prior to the
in-person course date in order to be eligible to attend the in-person
course. Pre-requisite swim test is required as outlined below. Class
duration will depend upon enrollment, although please be prepared to
be present for the entirety of the time outlined if needed. 100%
attendance is required to be eligible to pass. Provides entry-level
participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and
respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and
cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel
take over. Prerequisites: Minimum age: 15 years Swim Test: Part 1:
Jump into the water from the side, totally submerge, recover to the
surface and swim 150 yards. While swimming, you must swim
continuously, keeping your face in the water and demonstrating good
breath control. You may use the front crawl, breaststroke or a
combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
Swim goggles are allowed. After swimming 150 yards, maintain position
at the surface of the water without support for 2 minutes by treading.
While treading, you can only use your legs. Place your hands under
your armpits. Your head must remain above the surface of the water.
After your 2-minute tread, swim 50 more yards. Part 2: Complete a
timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim
20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are
not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7
to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and
swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both
hands holding the object and keeping your face at or near the surface.
Swimming the distance underwater is not permitted. Exit the water
without using a ladder or steps. Participants who successfully
complete the LIFEGUARDING COURSE RECEIVE AN AMERICAN RED CROSS
CERTIFICATE FOR LIFEGUARDING/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.
Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable. Please ensure you
are completely confident in your ability to pass the pre-requisite
swim test, as dues paid will be forfeited for those who do not pass
