BLOOM COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOCUSES ON BUILDING 21ST-century skills:
Critical Thinking. Collaboration. Communication. Creativity. Choice.
Caring. Bloom's innovative teachers engage students in inquiry-based
learning processes as part of each day's structure that also includes
a focus on literacy, mathematical thinking as well as strategies,
outdoor exploration, an emphasis on social-emotional intelligence, and
everyday responsibilities and problem-solving. Rather than relying on
grades to understand learning, our teachers get to know students
through multiple lenses in order to challenge and support them across
subjects and personal growth goals.
As Bloomington-Normal's only progressive, independent school, Bloom
serves families who are committed to quality educational experiences
designed by experienced, caring, globally minded teachers. We warmly
welcome families to visit on Sunday, March 1, from 2-4 p.m. in
considering enrollment for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Join us at our welcoming school in Normandy Village, Normal, Illinois
to meet teachers and board members and to learn more about how Bloom's
approach, small class sizes, and teacher commitment impacts day to day
experiences for our students. See our daily schedules that provide
structured support for students as they grow in 21st-century skills:
understanding the learning process; building confidence in and beyond
core content areas; deepening their understanding of themselves and
others; building community among their schoolmates as well as the
greater Bloomington-Normal area; and joyfully embracing their
learning.
When visiting Bloom at an open house, one parent - whose daughter and
son attend Bloom - said, "It was like walking into my child's brain!"
Open enrollment for new students begins March 1.
