Parkway, Suite 104, VERNON HILLS, IL Learn about mental health and how
to manage crisis situations in this FREE interactive 1-day course.
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID teaches you how to help someone who is
developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health
crisis. Classes usually consist of 30 people or less and are offered
in a respectful community setting in English or Spanish.
The Lake County Health Department through a SAMHSA grant is providing
the books and materials free of charge to ensure your success in
completing the course.
Topics Covered:
* Depression and mood disorders
* Anxiety disorders
* Trauma
* Psychosis
* Substance Use disorders
When you take a course, you learn how to apply the MENTAL HEALTH FIRST
AID ACTION PLAN in a variety of situations, including when someone is
experiencing:
* Panic attacks
* Suicidal thoughts or behaviors
* Non-suicidal self-injury
* Acute psychosis (e.g., hallucinations or delusions)
* Overdose or withdrawal from alcohol or drug use
* Reaction to a traumatic event
You learn by getting involved with the material and relating what you
learn to real-life applications. Discussion topics, scenarios, and
other activities keep you engaged in the course and give you an
opportunity to practice helping skills.
THIS EVENT IS SPONSORED BY THE LAKE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND
COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL
DISTRICT 128.
