Zen Master Thich Nhat Hahn and Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. forged a close friendship based on their shared commitment to peace, to building understanding, and to creating a Beloved Community.
To honor King and his friendship with Thich Nhat Hanh, the Winding Path Sangha invites the Iowa City community to join us for a special Walking Meditation at 10 a.m. Monday, January 17, starting at the Conklin Lane Entrance of Hickory Hill Park (map and details below).
We will gather in a circle at 10 a.m., welcome one another with the sound of a bell, introduce ourselves briefly, share brief remarks, then walk for about 30 minutes at a slow pace, silently. We ll return to our starting point, reform into a circle, and have the opportunity share whatever may be in our hearts after the walk and to listen deeply to one another.
Please dress warmly and wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes, and feel free to bring trekking poles or a walking stick. The trail is relatively flat and well maintained, but depending on the amount of snow/ice, it may be challenging for some people.
All are welcome, regardless of beliefs, experience with meditation or mindfulness practices, or membership with the Winding Path Sangha.
Please RSVP to this event so you can be notified in the event of late changes or any weather-related cancelation.
We hope you can join us!
