The laminated HANDPLANES DESIGNED (and made famous) by James KRENOV
ARE AS PRACTICAL AND FUN TO MAKE AS THEY ARE A JOY TO USE. In this
two-day class, students will make their own standard (45°) or York
(50°) pitch smoothing plane and learn to sharpen, maintain and use
these wonderful tools. Each plane will be made with a Hock Tools plane
iron, hardwood body, applied sole and carved crosspin. In learning to
make these planes, students acquire a skill that will impact their
cabinetmaking and furniture making – and leave with a great new tool
and the ability to make many more like it, with relative ease and
widely reconfigurable special purposes and uses. Krenov often called
the handplane “the Cabinetmaker’s violin” – but one needn’t
be a luthier to make their own!
Registration for the class is free. Registrants will be invoiced for
the $360, which includes all materials (and a brand-new Hock Tools
blade). A refund of your class fee will be issued in the case of
cancellation if a student from the waitlist is available to take the
yielded spot.
