The purpose of this interest meeting is to provide information, answer
questions, and assist with the application process for the PRIDE
Leadership Academy program. Details about the PRIDE program are

The Urban League of Louisiana Parent Information Center (PIC) is
offering a FREE series of courses through its P.R.I.D.E (Parents Ready
to be Involved and Deliver Excellence) Leadership Academy. The PRIDE
Leadership Academy program will offer participants an opportunity to
learn about the current challenges in the Baton Rouge education
landscape and to develop and enhance their advocacy skills.

Q:What is PRIDE?
A: PRIDE Parent Leadership Academy is a FREE six-week program for
parents and community members who are interested in learning more
about our education system and policies and developing as an advocate
for ALL students and families in Baton Rouge.
Q:How is PRIDE structured?
A: The PRIDE program consists of six (6) sessions. Sessions are
typically once a week for 2 hours each and take place on a weekday
evening. Each PRIDE session is focused on a particular advocacy topic,
education policy, or education justice issue. FREE transportation,
on-site childcare, and dinner are all provided for each PRIDE session.
In addition, each participant who completes the program will also
receive a monetary stipend.
The program concludes with participants completing an advocacy
project, which is a culmination of all knowledge and skills gained
during the six program sessions. The program will conclude in April
2020 and PRIDE PARTICIPANTS WILL BE HONORED AT A PRIDE GRADUATION
CEREMONY. The program is completely FREE, and the following resources
are provided FREE to program participants:
* FREE childcare during PRIDE sessions
* FREE dinner for parents and children during PRIDE sessions
* FREE transportation to and from PRIDE sessions
* FREE resources for parents to become strong education advocates
for their children!
* Participants who complete the program will receive a monetary
stipend!
Q: Who can participate in the PRIDE program? Do I have to be a parent?
A: The PRIDE Leadership academy is open to ALL parents, guardians, and
community members who are interested in learning more about education
and becoming more involved in education advocacy. Being a parent
isn’t a requirement, but passion and deep interest in learning about
education and developing as an advocate for equitable, accessible, and
high-quality education options for ALL children in the Baton Rouge
community definitely is!
