All skill levels welcome! Students explore drawing using observation
and imaginative-based approaches in simple wet and dry media (any
combination of watercolors, markers, colored pencils, crayons, pastels
and collage). Bring some small personal objects (stamps, toys,
buttons, dried flowers, or print outs of old photographs, drawings,
maps, diagrams. Play with drawing fundamentals and design to create
inventive images, illustrations, compositions. Botanicals, fashion,
landscape, costume, historic figures, events or periods may serve as
your theme to work with. Maybe an influential style like Surrealism,
Expressionism, cartooning, or Pop Art. We will make drawings, a
simple booklet format, “collage” imagery as floating compositions
and more. $79 workshop fee does not include materials. Please register
at least a week in advance. Suggested supplies: simple Crayola or Art
Loft Watercolor set, Princeton Round Brushes numbers 2, 4, 6, 10, and
or 12, sponge brushes, kitchen sponge to cut, wash cloth or rag, water
cups, gluestick, scissors, xacto blade, simple Crayola marker sets,
water soluble crayons (a few colors), colored pencils, any other
drawing materials, pens, or markers, a variety of papers, recycled
materials, Strathmore drawing pad 14 x 17 inches with a brown cover,
embroidery thread/needle, glitter, magazines to cut from, etc. A
small self-healing cutting mat is helpful if you need one. Any
materials you have at home work! We will have an hour break for lunch
between Noon-1pm. Bring your own lunch or check out one of the local
restaurants in the area. About the instructor: Alex Rheault teaches at
UNE and is a local exhibiting artist, curator and writer. Themes of
the discarded and decayed, the body and anatomy, drawing, painting,
