CSJQ PRESENTS AN EVENING OF SONGS HEARD IN THE GREAT FILMS NOIRS OF
THE 1940S AND ‘50s. Using these movies, the band samples the many
SHADES OF LOVE, from bliss to blues, rhapsodies to red wagons. CSJQ
performs classics such as “I’ll Remember April” (from _Phantom
Lady_), “Stella by Starlight” (_The Uninvited_), “I Hear a
Rhapsody” (_Clash by Night_), “Tangerine" (_Double Indemnity_),
and “One for My Baby” (_Road House_), as well as the title themes
from _Laura_, and TV crime shows such as _Peter Gunn_. Special
feature: a tribute to Ida Lupino, the only female director in
Hollywood at the time.
To complement this evocative, romantic jazz, the performance features
clips from the movies and introductions by CSJQ saxophonist and
vocalist Mark Osteen, author of _Nightmare Alley: Film Noir and the
American Dream_. A free copy of this book will be raffled off during
the show!
This unique multi-media event will delight jazz fans, classic movie
buffs, and anyone who has ever been in love.
