Spontaneous Poetry will be fast, loud, and act as a creative spark to
get the busy writer out of their own way. Utilizing poetic methods
from poetry’s most innovative eras, the workshop will encourage
direct observation, automatic writing, and a sense of play when
looking at our results. Every participant should leave this workshop
with a few poems in hand, and easy techniques to help surmount any
challenges from too little time or too little inspiration. Writing
should be exploratory, unpredictable. Using these techniques can help
the writer step away from predetermined judgments of results, and
allow more acceptance and pleasure from the writing we do with the
little time we have.About the Instructor: Chris Carson is a poet and
journalist living in Washington DC. His long poem entitled Segue,
about day dreaming and the Senate confirmation of Judge Brett
Kavanaugh, is forthcoming by Blue Figure Press. He was previously
publisher and editor of the experimental news and culture magazine,
Keepeyes. His previous work has appeared in Flaunt Magazine, The
Rumpus, and Otherwheres.
