Interested in supporting an elementary school student who is struggling to read in your own neighborhood? Join US at the READING PARTNERS' VOLUNTEER TUTOR ORIENTATION AT THE COMMONS! No commitment is required - you can come just to learn more about our program and how you can support our students. Note: When you are entering the building, go to your left and the classroom will be the first door on your left.  PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: TUTOR DESCRIPTION READING PARTNERS TUTORS WORK ONE-on-one with the same K-4th grade student for a minimum of one hour per week for a semester. More than simply READING WITH A CHILD, our VOLUNTEERS FOLLOW A proven [https://readingpartners.org/our-impact/program-impact/], structured curriculum to help students learn specific skills necessary to become proficient readers. It’s simple, and it works. Each lesson comes with step-by-step instructions and materials. A trained site coordinator is always available to answer questions, assist with the materials, and solve problems. A successful Reading Partners tutor: * displays a willingness and eagerness to learn tutoring strategies. * demonstrates patience and empathy for students while holding high expectations. * interacts effectively with diverse groups. * is reliable and consistent. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: READING PARTNERS’ COMMITMENT TO VOLUNTEERS  Volunteers are at the heart of our program and we are committed to providing a best-in-class volunteer experience by providing the following: * An easy, fun, and meaningful way to get involved in the community. * An evidence-based, easy-to-follow curriculum. * Training that empowers volunteers to effectively support students’ academic progress. * Ongoing support to volunteers during the school year through coaching, regular check-ins, and debriefing sessions. * A warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment conducive to learning. * Prompt and thoughtful communication with volunteers, including answering questions and keeping volunteers informed of upcoming events, calendar/schedule changes, and relevant program updates.
