WHAT TO EXPECT
Curated by our resident film nerds, each month brings a carefully selected gem from the world of cinema’s hidden corners. Think surrealist masterpieces, haunting silent films with live musical accompaniment, and underground treasures that challenge perspectives and expand minds.
The evening unfolds as more than just a screening. Arrive early for pre-film discussions where our curators share insights and context. After the credits roll, dive deeper into post-screening conversations that explore themes, techniques, and the lasting impact of these remarkable works.
Of course, no proper film night is complete without snacks to fuel the experience and discussions.
Let’s dig-in to our April screening: Faust (1926)
ABOUT THE FILM
What would tempt you to forfeit your soul? Riches? Desire? Eternal youth? The demon Mephisto wagers he can corrupt the alchemist Faust — and should he win, the Devil will reign over the earth. F. W. Murnau’s adaptation of Goethe’s tragic 1808 play is among the most ambitious achievements of German Expressionist cinema, and his last German production before his move to Los Angeles. Starring Gösta Ekman as Faust and Emil Jannings as Mephisto, this visually ravishing film will leave a lasting impression.
Live musical accompaniment by Adrian Bond and atmospheric projections by Joseph Karr.
