Description The Appalachian Trail crossing Virginia, Maryland and
Pennsylvania features historic Civil War sights and panoramic views of
mountains and valleys. Earn a certificate and patch by hiking each of
the seven sections in the Maryland Appalachian Trail series at least
once within a three-year period. Earn a 100- mile certificate and
patch by hiking additional miles on the Pennsylvania and Virginia
sections of the Appalachian Trail.
Start at a unique monument dedicated to Civil War correspondents and
site of several Union and Confederate battles. Hike through
picturesque forests, catch a glimpse of the panoramic view at Pleasent
Valley Overlook and enjoy lunch at cliffs overlooking the Potomac
River and the three states. Moderate terrain: 7 Miles

The HCRP Trail Hike program features many historic sights and
panoramic views. Trip leaders interpret points of interest and keep a
moderate pace.
Participants should be in good shape, have good balance and depth
perception to be able to hike two miles over rocky hills without a
break and the ability to complete the distance indicated. Fee includes
van or school bus transportation from the Park & Ride lot at the
intersection of Rte. 100 and Long Gate Pkwy, Ellicott City. Under 16
must be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian who is also
registered for the Trail Hike.
Detailed information is emailed to participants in the week prior to
the hike date. Closed-toed shoes required for all participants at all
times. All participants should check the program status line after 7am
the day of the Trail Hike, regardless of current conditions (410)
313-4451, press option 1 THEN option 3).
Trip return time may vary depending on the hike distance, traffic and
speed of the group.

If you know in advance that you will be unable to attend a Trail Hike
you are registered for, please notify us (email preferred) as soon as
possible prior to the hike date. All participants must be
pre-registered and on the roster for the hike. While it is possible to
switch registrations prior to the hike date, we cannot accept switches
or Wait Listed participants on the morning of the trip.
