Building Community is a vital part of life! Through this program, we
hope to build a community of friends that enjoy exploring life
together - getting to know each other, openly discussing topics of
God, life, and the world..
We invite you to Join us for "Life Explored" as we meet, eat, watch a
short film in two phases exploring a single concept about God, life
and the world, followed by an open group discussion. Bible passages
will be read in conjunction with the film. The film, Bible reading,
and discussion will lead to a point of reflection about life and how
we view the world. All opinions and thoughts are welcomed to promote a
diverse and interesting discussion! There is no "reading ahead", no
"homework", no forced discussion, and no requirements at all. You can
simply come, partake in the food, meet new friends, and just observe
if you choose, or you can participate fully in the discussion. You can
bring light food, snacks, or drinks if you want....but again, you
don't have to. Snacks will be provided.
Approximate Schedule:
7:00 - 7:15 "Eat, Meet, and Greet" - Grab a cup of coffee and some
snacks. Meet some new friends!
7:15 - 7:20 Introductions around the room and Introduction to the
evening.
7:20 - 7:30 Short silent film introducing a concept.
7:30 - 7:45 One thought provoking question for group discussion based
on the short film previously watched.
7:45 - 8:00 Reading of a Bible passage followed by a Film expounding
on the initial concept - exploring in more depth a single concept
about God and how that relates to our view of life and the world.
8:00 - 8:30 A second Bible reading followed by questions from that
passage. The questions will start out specific to the reading but will
lead to an Open Group Discussion with thoughts such as "what are some
different views people have about this....", "If you believed this to
be true, how would it affect your view of life and the world..." (even
if you don't believe it), and "What has been most striking to you
about this session...".
All viewpoints and opinions are welcome and encouraged as we explore
these concepts together. At approximately 8:30 the discussion will
close. Everyone is welcome to stay, discuss, mingle, talk about other
things, eat some more, & have more coffee. What to bring: Just bring
yourself! Feel free to bring a small plate of snacks or food to share
but not necessary! Just come and enjoy!
When participating in Group Discussion please create a respectful
community...
* by listening to others while they are talking, allowing them to
complete their thought prior to commenting.
* by not monopolizing the discussion time, allowing for everyone to
have a chance to share if they want to.
* by "disagreeing respectfully". We will all have varying beliefs
and opinions. An opposing view should be an opportunity to ask
questions and learn about the person and what has shaped their ideas,
rather than a chance to "argue and attack" an opposing view.
* by helping to create a safe, non-judgmental environment and
community where people can share, ask questions, think, build genuine
relationships, and interact.
We look forward to meeting you!
