Having been at the heart of various successful bands, big band folk
trailblazers Bellowhead; power folk trio Faustus; the Seth Lakeman
band, Benji concentrates on his own writings with this new outfit The
Excess. A trio: comprising of fellow ex-Bellowhead band mate, Pete
Flood on drums and Pete Thomas on double and electric bass, a regular
collaborator with Megan Henwood and Jackie Oates. With Benji mainly on
bouzouki and guitar the band will play a diverse range of material,
from the sensitive and gentle to the harder edged and more
rhythmically powerful. The onus is on new songs, and the band is
rehearsing to that effect, but they will also draw on material from
Benji's critically acclaimed 2008 album 'Boomerang' as well as a
choice selection from his 2015 release 'Hendrix Songs',
re-interpretations of the work of one of his musical heroes, Jimi
Hendrix. Benji's writing is brought to life with this fresh, vibrant
sound and is propelled in an exciting new direction.
