STOMPBOXTRIO PERFORM AT THE YOUTH-run TREECAT CAFé on Thursday,
September 19, 2019 at 6:30 pm at the Treehouse Community at
Easthampton Meadows, 1 Treehouse Circle Easthampton, Mass.
STOMPBOXTRIO IS A WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS BASED BAND THAT BLENDS CLASSIC
20TH-century American music with 21st-century mojo to create a sonic,
soulful sound all their own. STOMPBOXTRIO CAME TOGETHER AROUND THEIR
MUTUAL LOVE AND ADMIRATION FOR AMERICAN ROOTS AND BLUES MUSIC,
history, and tradition. STOMPBOXTRIO IS COMPRISED OF EVELYN HARRIS,
vocals & percussion, John Cabán, dobro, vocals and stompbox, and
David Rodriguez, wood bass, vocals and foot tambourine. Evelyn Harris
has been a force on the Western Mass/Pioneer Valley music scene for
many years. Her stirring vocals give depth and meaning to a wide array
of musical styles: African-American traditional and contemporary
music, freedom songs from around the world, jazz, pop, rock 'n' roll,
gospel, and blues. I sing because I have to, Evelyn claims. I know no
other way to say what is going on in my heart and mind that will
foster dialogue and understanding. I want us to know and celebrate how
deeply we are connected, no matter our ethnic, racial or religious
background. Her 18-year tenure with the internationally acclaimed
black women's a capella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock guided her
craft as an artist, performer, arranger, and composer. Her
compositions include 'State of Emergency' (1988 Grammy nomination),
and 'My Lament.' With Sweet Honey, she recorded and co-produced 10
albums on the Warner Brothers, Redwood, and Flying Fish labels.
Guitarist, composer, and producer John Caban has roots that run deep
in blues, funk, R&B, ambient, experimental and world music that has
helped inspire STOMPBOXTRIO. His distinctive dobro guitar style brings
a rich, lyrical and at times, haunting dynamic to the music. The
Western Mass native spent twenty plus years living in Brooklyn, New
York where he played, toured, and/or recorded with many diverse
artists from all over the globe including Richard Bona, KJ Denhert,
Alana Davis, Art Neville, Eddie Kramer, Bo Diddley (RIP), Kenny
Kirkland (RIP), Gianna Nannini, Alidu, Vast Ed Vadas, John Cruz,
Gloria Gaynor, his electric project, Galvanizer, and many others.
David Rodriguez has been committed to the upright bass for over 20
years. Multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, accompanist and
teacher, David has been exploring the rhythmic relationships across
the US from coast to coast, in Japan and Europe. He has connected
musically with some of the earths finest players, such as Lester
Bowie, Josh Roseman, Takeshi Kawabata and Geza Carr. Having recently
relocated from Tokyo to his childhood home of Western Mass, David is
an active member of its lively music scene. He is dedicated to both
preserving timeless forms and realizing new ones. Admission is $20 in
advance and $25 at the door for general public, $10 for students, and
$5 for Treehouse community members. A light meal will be served.
