Big Jon SHORT RETURNS TO THE PORCH! Armed with foot percussion, a
National Reso-phonic Guitar and Lowebow cigar-box reso-hillharp, Big
Jon Short’s high energy solo performances bring a foot-stomping show
that taps into the heart of the songs, regional styles, and folklore
of the blues and its importance to American music. Based in the
Northeast US, he travels and performs between 150-200 shows per year
in BBQ joints, breweries, blues rooms and festivals from Massachusetts
to Mississippi.
With performing experience in fifteen states and five countries over
the last ten years he has been able to perform at some of the best
known venues for Blues music and for more than two years he held a
residency at the famed Terra Blues in NYC – all while continuing his
work as a public school teacher, running Blues in Schools programs and
workshops. Since 2005 he has been a regular fixture performing
annually at the JukeJoint Festival in Clarksdale, MS where he also
moderates the Blues Education offerings at the Delta Blues Museum; a
program that featured David “Honeyboy” Edwards until his passing
in 2012.
In 2018 and 2019 Big Jon Short was the winner of two Worcester Music
Awards in the Blues/R&B Category and has won various regional awards.
In 2017 he was voted a finalist for the Telegram’s “Entertainer of
the Year” and in 2010 he was awarded the Worcester Cultural
Commission Artist Fellowship for his work as a Blues performer and
educator. He is currently supporting his most recent country
blues/one-man band studio recording “Short Plays Long”.
