This INTRODUCTION TO PRENATAL GENETICS IS FOR BOTH SPOKEN AND SIGN
LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS. DESCRIPTION
Every medical specialty provides its own challenges for interpreters.
Specialized vocabulary, complex concepts, and cultural barriers can
all present difficulties for interpreters striving to facilitate
understanding between patient and provider. Genetic counseling adds
the extra challenge to this highly technical and rapidly advancing
area of medicine.
This course is designed for interpreters who have already received
basic training. As such, it does not address basic interpreting
skills, ethics or protocols, but rather focuses on helping
interpreters improve their understanding of the content and vocabulary
when they encounter prenatal genetic appointments.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
* Identify and name 3 key concepts to understanding prenatal genetics
* Describe 2 cultural barriers that could impact interpreting in
prenatal genetics
* List 5 prenatal genetics vocabulary terms in the participants
specific language
COURSE TUITION
The cost of this course is $55.00(US). Course materials and light
breakfast refreshments are included. Lunch is on your own (there are
many restaurants nearby).
