Dear Colleagues, Community Partners, Faculty, Peers,
On Friday evening, April 7, EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY’S VISION
VOLUNTEER CENTER WILL BE HOSTING ITS ANNUAL ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK
(ASB) REORIENTATION. This year, we hope to bring community members
together as we showcase the 2017 nation-wide ASB trips- what impact
these trips had on students and communities, and how students are
applying their learning to the community in Washtenaw County- in the
format of an interactive gallery. We’re calling the event EMU “I
Break for Social Justice” Gallery!
We are thrilled that Reorientation is CONCURRENT WITH FIRST FRIDAYS IN
YPSILANTI. First Fridays Ypsilanti is a self-guided monthly art and
culture walk hosted throughout downtown Ypsilanti, at multiple venues,
to showcase local talent while supporting local businesses in the
downtown area.
The evening will begin at 7:00PM AT BEEZY’S SECOND SPACE- 23 N
WASHINGTON ST. YPSILANTI, MI 48197. With this interactive gallery, we
hope to provide campus and community members with the opportunity to
read and hear how our students, or ‘active citizens’ as we like to
call them, are applying what they learned through their participation
in the Alternative Breaks program to the local Washtenaw County
community.
_At VISION, we believe that part of being an active citizen is
building community. This happens naturally when we invite others in
communities of proximity to take stock of values and priorities
together, and organize actions as a group. __We hope to see you for
this vibrant evening of celebration so that we can thank you in person
for your support and efforts in developing this group of students
striving to create meaningful change in the world._
