INTRODUCTION.Susan Julian, Executive Director, North Oakland
Headwaters Land Conservancy, Clarkston, MI, will present information
about the role citizens can have in dealing with the extinction of
local species.
Susan Julian is an ecologist and educator who graduated from Antioch
College where her instructor was Aldous Murie s son. After 2 ½ years
teaching in the Peace Corps in Malaysia, she obtained a B.S. in
Biology from Grand Valley State University.
Susan’s career has always been as a volunteer tackling, among other
things, refugee resettlement, Appalachian education, lobbying for a
better Michigan drain code, and lobbying for better local school board
policies.
Susan served in a variety of roles at North Oakland Headwaters Land
Conservancy in Clarkston since 2002 and is now the volunteer executive
director/stewardship director.
In addition to addressing the Poweshiek butterfly extinction and what
it means for Michigan, Susan will highlight the narration she wrote
for NOHLC s current video and land acquisition campaign, Big Help for
a Little Butterfly, www.nohlc.org
