This inspiring World War II story spotlights 450 men who fought on two fronts at one; Nazis in Europe, and racism at home. In honor of Black History the MSU Detroit Center, in partnership with MSU Libraries and Detroit Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, is showing the PBS movie, Tuskegee Airmen. A representative from the Detroit Chapter Tuskegee Airmen will be giving a presentation, following the film, about the Detroit Museum, Detroit’s history with the Tuskegee Airmen, youth programs, and Detroit RedTail’s mission of taking the story of the Tuskegee Airmen into the American Car Culture. This inspiring World War II story spotlights 450 men who fought on two fronts at once. Black American aviators, known as the Tuskegee Airmen, battled Axis powers in Europe and North Africa and then took on racism at home. Trained by the segregated military system as an experiment to see if blacks could fly in combat, these pilots made more than 15,000 sorties and 1,500 missions. Their success led to the integration of the U.S. armed forces.
