During the past 25 years Craig "Bones" Maki dug into the deepest
depths of our country's rockabilly, blues and western music heritage
to unearth and revive the grooviest tunes. That inspired him to write
songs that sound just as punchy as favorites from the pre-digital era.
Bones began his musical career by hosting radio programs in the
Detroit metro area which featured rockabilly and western swing. In
2000 Maki’s first band, The Big Barn Combo, won a Detroit Music
Award for the album “Comin’ All The Way From Detroit City.” He
completed two more albums and an EP with a trio called the Sun
Dodgers, and continued to focus on the rockabilly genre with a group
called the Treble-Aires. Maki and his combos performed at festivals
and showcases across the United States and Europe.
Author of the book "Detroit Country Music: Mountaineers, Cowboys, and
Rockabillies" (U of M Press, 2013), a history of early country in
Detroit, Bones and his new group, the Blue Water Boys, explore this
fascinating genre of Detroit's musical history, with originals
peppered across a set of the best locally-sourced music.
