CLASS INFORMATION AND POLICIES
REGISTRATION: Registration will close a minimum of one day before
the class date. Currently, use of gift cards to purchase class
registrations is not available online or by phone. Please visit us in
the Market Administration office on the second floor during normal
Market hours to register using gift cards.
TICKETS: There is no need for paper tickets or to print this
confirmation email. Your name will be on an attendee list at the
entrances.
FORMAT: Typically, doors will open for a class at the published start
time. You're welcome to arrive at the Market early to enjoy all we
have to offer and come up to class at the scheduled start time. During
class, you may work with other participants in small groups for
portions of meal preparation. You will be standing, cooking, and
working for most of the class. Seating is available and our cooktops
are height-adjustable to accommodate persons with disabilities and our
younger participants.
ALLERGIES/SPECIAL NEEDS: Our class recipes were developed using
common cooking and baking ingredients that may or may not be specified
in menu titles. We do our best to prevent cross-contamination;
however, The Downtown Market’s Teaching Kitchen is not an allergy
safe environment. ALL FOOD ALLERGIES AND/OR SPECIAL NEEDS MUST BE
STATED IN DETAIL ON THE REGISTRATION FORM. We will do our best to
accommodate needs and allergies when notified in advance but
adjustments to recipes cannot be made during class.
REFUNDS: If you register for a class and cannot attend for any
reason, a one-week notice is required to receive a refund or request
transfer to another class. Registrations canceled in advance of one
week will receive a refund and may incur a 10% processing fee. NO
REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS CAN BE GIVEN FOR REGISTRATIONS CANCELED LESS THAN
ONE WEEK FROM THE SCHEDULED CLASS DATE, EVEN FOR UNEXPECTED ABSENCES,
INCLUDING ILLNESS. If you are unable to attend a class and the refund
deadline has passed, we invite you to send someone in your place.
Just let us know in advance so we can update registration and food
allergy information. All classes are subject to rescheduling or
cancellation (which would result in a full refund). Recipes and
ingredients are subject to change based on availability.
PARKING: Parking is available on site at our Ellis-operated site.
Parking is free for the first 30 minutes, $2 for 30-60 minutes, and $1
for each additional 30 minutes.
FOOD/DRINK: We will cook up snacks in the kitchen, so don't worry
about packing your own (this includes kids camps, where campers will
make a meal they will eat onsite each day). Please make sure to let us
know of any food allergies or intolerances as indicated above. For
adult classes, we will have a water station and cash bar where you can
purchase beverages.
EMERGENCY CONTACT: An emergency contact must be provided on the
registration form for all participants in kids/teens classes,
including name and phone number. In addition, parents will be required
to sign in/sign out minors and provide contact information for anyone
additional authorized for drop off or pick up.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS: We have everything you need for class - all
the equipment, the ingredients, the aprons, and the fun! We also have
coat racks for jackets/purses. If you shop in the Market Hall prior
to class and need to put any perishable food purchases in our cooler,
please let our sous chef know on your way into class. For certain
kids camps, we may be outside for up to one hour. If the participant
would like to wear a hat or sunscreen, please send those items along.
Please do not bring other personal belongings to class as we have
plenty of recipes and activities planned and wouldn't want your
special items to get lost.
BEHAVIOR: We hope everyone comes to class ready to have a lot of fun
and learn some tricks of the trade! Although group interaction and
socializing are encouraged during our classes, please be respectful to
instructors and fellow class participants to make sure everyone has a
great time. For kids/teens classes/camps, participants should come
prepared to engage in group activities and be ready to get hands
dirty but also take turns and share the hands-on experience with
others in their class. Inappropriate behavior or class disruption will
be addressed by the instructors and, if necessary, brought to parents'
attention.
