(4) part SERIES ENTITLED, Anti-Racsim For EDUCATORS. This WORKSHOP
SERIES WILL OPEN YOUR MINDS AND EYES TO THE PERVASIVE NATURE OF RACISM
IN OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM AND THE SYSTEMIC IMPACTS UPON STUDENT OF COLOR
AS WELL AS WHITE STUDENTS. This SERIES IS DESIGNED FOR EDUCATORS,
social workers, case managers and others who work with students of
color and want to grow their understanding of covert and overt RACISM,
the effects of implicit bias, and disparate treatment of Black
children and other children of color within educational
settings.Participants will engage in small group activities, case
studies, and hypotheticals designed to challenge and enhance your
perspectives around race and its influence in and outside of the
classroom. You will learn strategies, tools, and skills to become an
Anti-Racism advocate. CEUs also available.

PART 1
THE IMPACTS OF WHITE SUPREMACY IN EDUCATION: A DEEPER DIVE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2019 FROM 10 AM - 2PM
We will open this series by giving an historical context of how white
supremacy has impacted the education system from the past to the
present. During this workshop, we will further expose the pervasive
nature of white supremacy, the violence it creates and the harm it
causes in our education system. This workshop is designed for
educators, social workers, case managers, parents, students and others
who desire to transform their environments, and who want to grow in
their understanding of covert and overt racism and the ideology of
white supremacy, the effects of implicit bias and disparate treatment
of Black, Brown, and other marginalized populations within our
education system.
This interactive workshop will:
* bring awareness of the roots of white supremacy and how it is
toxic to us all;
* eliminate patterns of thinking and practices that intentionally
and unintentionally harm and perpetuate hate, violence, and division;
and
* help attendees develop strategies to work more effectively to
counter the impacts of white supremacy and begin the healing process.

PART 2
ANTI-BLACK RACISM IN PUBLIC EDUCATION: 5 KEY THINGS EVERY EDUCATOR
MUST KNOW
SATURDAY, OCTOBER, 5 2019 FORM 10 AM - 2 PM
During this workshop, we will explore the impacts of racism, trauma,
an historical context of anti-blackness in public education from
slavery to Brown v. Board of Education, and effective strategies for
disrupting the status quo. This workshop is designed for educators,
social workers, case managers and others who work with Black children,
and who want to grow in their understanding of covert and overt
racism, the effects of implicit bias and disparate treatment of Black
children within public school settings.
This interactive workshop will challenge you to:
* move outside of your comfort zone;
* eliminate patterns of thinking and practices that might
unintentionally harm students of color; and
* develop strategies to work more effectively with students of
color, with a greater sense of urgency.

PART 3
CRACKING THE CODE: THE URGENCY OF AFFIRMING BLACK BOYS IN THE
CLASSROOM
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2019 FROM 10 AM - 2 PM
During this workshop, we will challenge the current punitive approach
to educating Black boys in public education and discuss whether or not
it is effective in meeting the outcomes of preparing them for academic
success in primary and post-secondary education. The issues we explore
will include the impacts of white supremacy, racism, trauma, systemic
injustices, and effective strategies for disrupting the status quo and
engaging in educational practices that are more racially-inclusive and
equitable.
This interactive workshop will challenge you to:
* increase cultural competency and racial sensitivity;
* grow in your understanding of historical and contemporary issues
that impact Black boys;
* eliminate patterns of thinking and practices that might
unintentionally harm Black boys; and
* develop strategies to work more effectively with Black male
students, and with a greater sense of urgency.

PART 4
HOW TO AVOID THE MISTAKES EDUCATORS MAKE WHEN TEACHING STUDENTS OF
COLOR: GET IT RIGHT
SATURDAY, OCOTBER 19, 2019 FROM 10 AM - 2PM
During this workshop, we will highlight common errors and missteps
made when educating and/or working with children of color, and other
students who are misunderstood.
This interactive workshop will:
* not only help attendees understand the mistakes made, but how
they are offensive and counterproductive to academic success;
* assist attendees in developing appropriate actions to avoid
future mistakes; and
* improve classroom management skills so that all students feel
welcomed, leading to increased excited about school and improved
performance, academically, behaviorally, and socially.

ARE THERE ID OR MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER THE EVENT?
For individuals who purchased student discount tickets a school ID
will be required to enter the workshops. There are no age
restrictions for these workshops. In fact we encourage the attenddance
of students.
WHAT ARE MY TRANSPORTATION/PARKING OPTIONS FOR GETTING TO AND FROM THE
EVENT?
The location is on the bus line. We have also provide a map of the
surrounding areas complete with parking options and cost
(Transportation and parking are not included in the cost of
registration).

Registrants are allowed to bring a notepad, writing utensils,
elctronic devices (laptops. tablets, ipads, phones) to take notes.
