Hook & LADDER CREATES 118 UNITS OF HOUSING SERVING RESIDENTS WITH
INCOMES AT OR BELOW 60% AMI, in a historically working class
MINNEAPOLIS NEIGHBORHOOD WITH STEADILY INCREASING RENTS. The projects
builds upon the area’s environmentally innovative elements propelled
by an engaged community, including stormwater management, solar, and
educational projects. The Hook & LADDER DEVELOPMENT IS DESIGNED
SPECIFICALLY TO FACILITATE A LONG-term comparative STUDY BETWEEN
PHIUS-certified construction and standard affordable housing
construction (Enterprise Green Communities). The project is comprised
of two buildings of 59 units each; one will be built to comply with
Green Communities requirements; the other to Passive House
certification through PHIUS+ 2015. The two buildings will provide a
cost benefits analysis of Passive House, both in initial construction
costs and long-term energy and maintenance costs, for replication in
other markets.
A brief presentation by project team members will introduce Passive
House (PHIUS) certification goals and the methods used to achieve
them, including lessons learned from the design, construction,
certification, financing, and lease-up process. A tour will enable
participants to see the completed project, including a typical unit in
the PHIUS building. The presentation will be held in the Hook & Ladder
common room.
2020 Programs
-------------------------
USGBC Minnesota's first quarter of 2020 is focused on housing.
Presentations will examine Energy Efficiency Potential in Housing, Net
Zero Single Family Housing, a Tour of the Passive House Hook and
Ladder, and our Quarter 1 Meeting examining the intersection of
Affordability and Sustainability in housing throughout the Twin Cities
and beyond.
A thread running through all 2020 programming is Climate Action.
This year, we have explicitly challenged our presenters to consider
the takeaways you'll leave with after attending their session. We
want these outcomes to be actionable, leaving you inspired to explore
new (and renewed) solutions that better our planet.
Join us for these exciting conversations, great networking, and some
amazing food at all our our 2020 events.
