Youth Day at the Capitol (YDAC) attendees will learn how to
effectively advocate for an issue of their choosing, and practice
those advocacy skills during a meeting with their local elected
official(s). From 8:30 - 8:45 a.m., attendees arrive and register.
From 9 - 11 a.m., attendees will participate in interactive
small-group sessions lead by members of the MN Youth Council to learn
advocacy strategies and best practices. They will also have the chance
to visit exhibits at the MN History Center. From 11 - 11:30 a.m.,
attendees will come together for a large-group session to learn about
and give feedback on bills pertaining to youth that are making their
way through the legislative process. At 11:30 a.m. attendees will
march to the Minnesota Capitol and take a group photo on the Capitol
steps. After pictures, attendees will have the chance to eat lunch,
tour the Capitol and meet with their local elected official(s).
NEW THIS YEAR -- the YDAC planning team will be helping attendees set
up legislative meetings between 12 - 4 p.m. Starting at 1 p.m.,
attendees can visit the Capitol Rotunda to vote in a mock Presidential
Primary election, visit with Minnesota's constitutional officers, and
learn about other civic engagement opportunities for youth. YDAC will
conclude at 4 p.m. Categories: Politics & Activism
