Schedule (Tentative) CLASS DESCRIPTIONS CONDITIONING Ballet
Conditioning is essential to any committed ballet student, as it
offers a fine-tuned approach to understanding how to feel, work and
access one’s core, turnout, back and strength, specific to the
ballet body. Our 45 minute class will combine movement from Yoga,
Ballet, Pilates and Progressive Ballet Technique. CLASSICAL BALLET
TECHNIQUE CLASS Ballet Technique Class is fundamental to a dancer’s
day. With emphasis on alignment, placement and artistry, our technique
classes will move through barre to center at a pace where everyone
feels challenged and successful! Our teaching artists hold
certifications in both the Vaganova (Russian) Syllabus, as well as the
ABT/NTC (American Ballet Theater National Training Curriculum, Levels
Pre-Primary through 5), and artfully combine their knowledge to create
movement fit for the adult ballet dancer. CLASSICAL VARIATIONS CLASS
Variations class offers students the opportunity to study 1-2
variations from the classical ballet repertoire. Studying these
variations gives the ballet student a sense of history, artistry and
movement particular to performing onstage! POINTE CLASS Whether you
don the pointe shoes for this class or not, this beginning pointe
class is a wonderful introduction to the World of Pointe. With
exercises designed to strengthen the ankles, arches and foot, Pointe
Class is for everyone! CHARACTER DANCE CLASS Character Dance is the
stylized version of world or folk dances often seen performed in the
classical ballet repertoire. Travel the world with us in this
introduction to Character Dance as we look at dances from Hungary,
Poland and Spain, to name a few! BEGINNING PARTNERING CLASS Pas de
Deux, or Partnering, is the study of making two dancers become one.
Most often thought of in terms of the classical ballet repertoire,
basic partnering skills can truly inform a dancer’s understanding of
placement, conditioning and teamwork! CHOREOGRAPHY LAB Our Summer
Ballet Intensive students will be learning a short piece of
choreography from the classical ballet repertoire. We will use this
class time to set and rehearse that choreography. OPTIONAL NIGHTLY
EXCURSION (M-TH Only) COCA sits right at the beginning of what is
known as The Delmar Loop in St. Louis. Join us nightly for a stroll
down the Loop for dinner, drinks and/or relaxation and laughs! PHOTO
SHOOT (Saturday Only) We will have our “class photo” taken by a
professional photographer and offer up the opportunity for our
students to have an individual moment in the spotlight (headshot,
ballet pose, silly pose-dancer’s choice!) with our professional
photographer.
