Fan Dance Workshop
Learn the fan dance basics in this 8-week course, with included recital performance!
First popularized as a major burlesque prop in the 1930s from dancer Sally Rand, ostrich feather fan work has always been a favorite tool for the tease.
Upon completion of this workshop, students will have a working knowledge and skill of ostrich feather fan use, to then include into the dancers stable of acts.
Over the eight-week course, students will develop and refine skill in working with these big beautiful beasts, building strength & agility, movement repertoire, construction & care knowledge, and refinement technique.
+Experienced burlesque dancers only, no prior flow / variety experience required, open to all humans 18+. +Dancers need their own ostrich feather fans, or may rent a pair of ours for class use. +Dancers should wear comfortable, form fitting exercise type clothes and wear a pair of short sturdy heels or similar for comfort. +Additional costuming requirements for both class rehearsal and recital are necessary.
Deanna Danger, “The Burlesque Bard,” is a traveling performance artist & host, producer, instructor, model, actor, comedienne, Witch, and activist. They’ve spent the better part of the last decade teaching others how to shimmy, shake and perform “The Art of the Tease” as the founder and former Headmastress of Boom Boom Basics Burlesque & Performing Arts Studio in Richmond, VA.
These days however, you can find Deanna either touring the country in their VW Burlesque-a-lade, with their signature high glam, high concept art, or keepin’ it real risque at Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club in their new hometown of St. Louis, MO. They’re the 2012 1st Place winner of the Pennsylvania Burlesque Festival, Richmond’s reigning, voted “Best Burlesque Performer,” and Richmond’s 2016 Entertainer of the Year.
