Groups meet at the Friends of Black Rock-High Rock's Visitor Center
Store at 320 Main Street before carpooling to Fly Ranch.Friends of
Black Rock-High Rock is excited to offer 3-hour guided NATURE WALKS OF
FLY RANCH IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BURNING MAN PROJECT. Our WALKS EXPLORE A
PORTION OF THE STUNNING 3,800 acre property and give participants an
immersive experience with the vast and dynamic environment recently
acquired by Burning Man Project. Participants will interact with
knowledgeable tour guides to learn more about the flora, fauna, and
natural resources on the Fly Ranch property and surrounding areas.
Included in the 1.5 mile walk is the stunning Fly GEYSER, a unique and
iconic geothermal GEYSER THAT CONSTANTLY SPRAYS WATER REACHING FIVE
FEET IN THE AIR, depositing minerals, and enabling the growth of
multi-colored algae on its surrounding natural terraces. For more
information about the property and Burning Man’s Fly Ranch Project,
visit: https://flyranch.burningman.org
[https://flyranch.burningman.org]. We increasingly spend time in front
of screens and on our phones. Some communities are putting down their
phones, and we’re testing that out. Let’s enjoy the property
without distractions. Let’s connect with the land, explore, and be
in the moment with one another. Let’s experience the land in real
time together. For our WALKS, we ask you to keep your cameras
and phones in your backpack or pocket when you come onto the property
until free time at the end of the walk when we're closest to the Fly
GEYSER. We support photography and telling stories through pictures,
so in the future, we’ll have trips specifically for photographing
the land. These walking visits will occur rain or shine. Please wear
pants and closed-toes shoes during the WALKS. For insurance and
liability reasons, we are not able to accommodate soaking in the pools
at this time. In GERLACH, there is a Gas Station, Motel, Bruno's
Country Club (restaurant and bar), the Miner's Club (cafe and bar),
and Joe's GERLACH Club. You can either spend the night at the motel
in GERLACH, camp out on neighboring public land in the area, or stay
overnight in Reno or Fernley. Empire Store is 6 miles to the South of
GERLACH, and has some convenience store amenities and camping
supplies. The Friends of Black Rock-High Rock Visitor Center also has
some drinks, snacks, emergency supplies, and educational material for
sale. Tickets for this experience are donation-based. The ticket
amount will be charged to your credit card to reserve your place on
these limited capacity trips. After the visit, you may request a
refund of all or part of your donation in the form of a check
(excluding ticket fees). If you do not attend, the full amount will be
considered a donation and will not be refunded. Because of the limited
size of the group, we ask that all children be signed up. There are 5
free children spaces on each walk for children 12 and under. Both
Burning Man Project and Friends of Black Rock-High Rock are nonprofit
organizations. Your donations enable us to continue to offer walking
visits and help fulfill our nonprofit missions. Groups will meet at
the time indicated on your ticket at the Friends of Black Rock-High
Rock's Visitor Center Store at 320 Main Street before carpooling to
Fly Ranch. Please arrive ten minutes before your NATURE WALK TO ALLOW
TIME FOR THE SIGN IN PROCESS. For more directions, visit the "Get
There" tab. We accomodate for mobility! Contact us a
volunteer@blackrockdesert.org or 775-557-2900 for more information.
