The WEEKLY WALK ABOUT IS AN EVENING PROGRAM DESIGNED TO explore basic
ecological concepts ranging from the life beneath your feet to the
trees that tower over you! Each class will include an introduction to
a monthly topic, followed by a chance to put your new skills to the
test with a hands-on exploration of the various habitats that DUKE
FARMS has to offer. You’ll come away from each WEEKLY WALK ABOUT
WITH A NEW APPRECIATION FOR YOUR PLACE IN nature and how you can
translate lessons learned into your daily life!This program is for
adults only, please. You can register for one, some, or all of the
dates. Please register accordingly with the scheduled below.
June 1 and 5: Balance of the Biome
How do native plants interact with the soil around them? What makes
dirt so special? What can you do to make your yard a more hospitable
place for flowers and pollinators?
JUNE 15 AND 19: WILDFLOWER ID
Learn to ID wildflowers of NJ with this hands-on lesson! You’ll
leave with the ability to continue your exploration beyond the class
time.
July 6: Forests
During this introduction to forest ecology you’ll learn what makes
a healthy forest and explore our woodlots.
July 20: Tree ID
New Jersey is green as can be at this time of year, so during this
class you’ll learn how to identify all of the trees that you see
around you!
August 3: Meadow Ecology
Meadow ecology is a large part of the research at Duke Farms, so come
learn about the health and balance of this beautiful habitat. What
makes a meadow? Can you bring this beauty to your own back yard?
August 17: Predators and Prey
During Monarch Month, come learn about the vital pollinators that
make our lives possible and the constant balance of predator and prey
that they must face!
_Please dress for the weather! Appropriate shoes are required. Please
bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and insect repellent. _
