During this program children (and their parents!) will learn all about the wonders of insects. In the sky and under water, JUNIOR ENTOMOLOGISTS WILL EXPLORE THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT USING NETS, microscopes, field guides, and other tools that scientists use. Part of each program is spent indoors learning about the topic of the month. Then we will go outdoors for a buggy activity. This program will run rain or shine, so please dress for the weather and be prepared to walk between one and two miles with varying trail conditions. Please bring a refillable water bottleAPRIL 19: INCREDIBLE INSECTS What makes an insect an insect? What are the different kinds of insects? Learn all about what insecs are and their body structures.  MAY 24: LOG FLIPPIN' FUN Pick through and look under a rotten log to find decomposers and the dark-loving critters! What kinds of insects and slimy things live in logs?  JUNE 14: BEETLE EAT OR BE EATEN   What kinds of animals eat insects? What kind of bugs eat other bugs? How do insects hide from their predators? JULY 19: BEETLE BUDDIES   Learn all about the most common type of insect—beetles! They are the most diverse group in the world, and we will explore different kinds of beetles, like ladybugs, fireflies, and more!  AUGUST 23: MIGHTY MACROS What’s a benthic macroinvertebrate? What do they become and why are they important? Bring your boots to splash through Duke’s Brook as we look at the life of insects under water. SEPTEMBER 20: PRECIOUS POLLINATORS Get to know the most famous pollinators, the bees and butterflies, as well as the lesser known, but just as important ones like ants, birds, beetles and moths! _*Note: These programs are designed for families with children ages 7-12. At least 1 adult must accompany each family of children during this program, with no more than two adults accompanying each family. We cannot accommodate any younger children who are not currently ages 7-12. This includes the younger siblings of participant, as well as any toddlers or babies in arms, carriers, slings or strollers. ACCOMPANYING ADULTS ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO REGISTER and pay the listed fee._ _TICKETS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND. THE TRANSFER OF TICKETS IS NOT PERMITTED. _
