DOCTOR IS IN. IN-SYNC. IN-SPIRING. AND JUST THE TEENIEST BIT IN-SANE.
DR. BRADLEY JONES (YES, THAT SHINGLE IS REAL) HAS JUST THE RIGHT
AMOUNT OF OBSERVATION, RHYTHM AND RAZZLE-DAZZLE TO CHARM ANYONE WITHIN
EARSHOT.”_ - Tulis McCall, The Front Row Center
_“THE EVENING WAS CONSISTENTLY SURPRISING AND CLEVER, AND OFTEN VERY
TOUCHING…DR. JONES IS A DEFINITE REMEDY FOR THE MID-SUMMER
BLUES.”_ - Bart Greenberg, Cabaret Scenes
With music and deft story-telling that’s eccentric and true,
poignant and captivating, nostalgic and jubilant, Dr. Jones exhorts us
to understand NARCISSISM NOT AS A DISEASE BUT MORE A MEANS OF
SURVIVAL. He regales us through 70 minutes, applying his rapier wit
to true tales of backstage life, excessive drug use, living through
the AIDS pandemic and making his decision to pursue a new career, a
choice made easier considering a “blown out knee.” But Jones is
back on his feet again, to perform a fifteen year recap of intensive
psychoanalysis in under 7 minutes - in tap shoes!
Jones is supported by The Freudians, a quartet led by pianist Mike
Pettry, the show’s music director, with Alden Banta on
woodwinds, Jacob Silver on bass, and Zack Eldridge on
percussion. Dr. Bradley’s Fabulous Functional Narcissim: The Solo
Show features mainly the music that underscored these decades and
Jones’ milieu: Broadway standards including the music of Stephen
Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Harold
Arlen, Ray Heindorf, Brian Yorkey and more. The show was directed by
KT Sullivan, artistic director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation, and an
internationally renowned performer.
