Looking for a fun experience in SANTA FE? How about playing in the mud
with a local ceramic artist!During the class, you’ll learn
techniques such as slab building, coiling, making pinch pots and/or
tiles. The cost includes a two-hour hand-building pottery class
complete with libations and all materials, clay, glazes, and firing,
and we can ship your works of art to you when they're complete ($25
shipping). A variety of beverages is offered, and you're welcome to
BYOB as well. 100% of net proceeds go to our non-profit beneficiaries.
We start each pottery class by taking students on a tour of our little
pottery studio. Paseo Pottery is housed inside a rustic little adobe
built in the early 1900s in the railyard district of Santa Fe and has
been part of the Santa Fe art scene for three decades. The space
includes both a working ceramics studio and a retail gallery. In the
studio, artists feverishly design and create—think muddy mayhem,
whirling wheels, fiery kilns, and sundry clay-coated potting
paraphernalia—while in the gallery finished pieces are displayed
beneath the soft glow of farmhouse chandeliers.
During class, students will learn about the process of making pottery,
starting with creating their individual works of art today during
class, through how we will then take their pieces through the rest of
the process: trimming, drying, bisquing, glazing, firing, etc. Each
student will have an opportunity to make two pieces and can either
chose to throw on the wheel, or perhaps a little of both. At the end
of the class, students choose a glaze color for each piece, then we
handle the rest and let you know when your pieces are ready.
