Alegría Ensemble perform “While the Sand Still Runs”, a new
composition by Professor Emeritus Edward Smaldone at PORT WASHINGTON
Library. The programme also includes works by Ernest Bloch, Lili
Boulanger, and Haydn, offering a diverse and thoughtful afternoon.The
Alegría Ensemble is founded by three queens residents and Queens
College alumni, brings together musicians from diverse backgrounds and
offers a fresh perspective on classical and contemporary music.
Violinist Chloe Dickens (from England) cellist Sara Juneau (Italy) and
pianist Ricky Moreira (Ecuador) bring a distinctive level of expertise
and enthusiasm to their music-making. The ensemble is dedicated to
fostering a collaborative environment where new works can be
premiered, and established pieces can be reimagined. What unites
Alegría’s members is their belief that live music performance will
be kept alive through imaginative, accessible programmes that appeal
to all ages.
