• What we'll do
*It is very important to read the entire description.* **There is
approximately 2,000 ft elevation gain on this hike** ***If you sign up
for this hike, you are absolutely expected to attend. Signing up just
because, late cancellations and no-show's are never acceptable.
Attendance is always taken***Many Members are familiar with the west
side of Mt. Beacon. The vertical hike up to the ruins, great views and
perhaps, on to the fire tower. We will do something very different,
while still getting our fill of the ruins and climbable tower. Plus
more. We'll park at the popular lot at the base of Mt Beacon, then do
a short car pool to a very lesser traveled area. From there we'll
explore a series of marked and unmarked trails, bushwhack, find ruins,
a lost lane or two, a seldom seen historic 27ft monument,
casino/hotel/ inclined r r ruins, and yes, still more ruins with
artifacts. Don't forget the mind blowing views that we'll see from
BOTH summits and other locations. This is a STEEP, strenuous hike,
around 8 miles. It has numerous other up's and down's. Bushwhack thru
mt. laurel. All day event wt no early outs. It's usually very blustery
on the tops. Slippery conditions probable. I reserve the right to
change a Member's rsvp based on past attendance or physical issues.
Mileage, elevation gain, and finish times are APPROXIMATIONS. Never
quote me. No pets, kids, guests, runners, slow pokes, beginners.
Liability waiver signature required.
• What to bring
A sense of exploration. Strong footwear. Traction devices for in case,
Poles recommended, Food, Water. Extra layer for windy cold mt tops.
• Important to know
I can't emphasize this enough. All day. Significant elevation gain.
Most would find this strenuous. Possible slick conditions and wind.
