Drummer Kolipe Camara Ibrahima Kolipe Camara is a Master Drummer and
musician from Guinea, West Africa. At an early age, Kolipe travelled
throughout the regions of West Africa learning the different types of
musical instruments, rhythms and dances from the many ethnic groups.
In 2000, Kolipe joined Les Ballets Africaines, the internationally
recognized representatives of West African Culture, and the highest
level of accomplishment for a Guinean percussionist. As a lead drummer
for the Ballet, Kolipe toured throughout Africa, Europe, Asia and the
Americas, eventually settling in New York City.
Join Master Drummer Kolipe for a fun and intensive class designed for
students of all ages and all levels.
Focus: Mastering djembe/djun djun solo techniques
Improving students' comfort on the drums.
Learning new Guinean, Malian and Senegalese rhythms
The class will introduce students to different time signatures, tempos
and feelings. The ensemble playing will help you learn how to play
with others and develop a discerning ear as well as know what to play
to engage the audience as a soloist
