MAKE FRIENDS! MAKE ART! SOUNDPAINTING SUNDAYS - IN THE SLOPE IMPROVISE WITH DANCERS, ACTORS & MUSICIANS! FIRST SUNDAYS: MARCH 1, APRIL 5, MAY 3, JUNE 76:30-8:30PM Slip into a STRIKE ANYWHERE [https://strikeanywhere.info/] SOUNDPAINTING. Every first Sunday of the month, Strike Anywhere can be found at Young Ethel [https://www.youngethels.com/]’s’s in Park Slope Brooklyn. We invite all dancers, actors, musicians (professional or otherwise) to come and play together. During this informal evening, we will share our love for SOUNDPAINTING, the sign-language that allows US to live-compose with multi-disciplinary improvisers. We’re developing a team of performers who could become part of a site-specific SOUNDPAINTING BRIGADE. Grab a drink, learn a handful of SOUNDPAINTING SIGNS, check out a short demo by Strike Anywhere and then either create spontaneous art with the ensemble or just watch. FREE! *  6:30-7:00PM MEET AND GREET (For those attending the primer) *  7:00-7:30PM SOUNDPAINTING PRIMER (SA will share a handful of Soundpainting gestures that will be used in the improvisation)  * 7:30-8:00PM STRIKE ANYWHERE SET (The ensemble will perform a short set) * 8:00-8:30PM SOUNDPAINTING JAM (Fold into a series of improvisations with the ensemble) SOUNDPAINTING is the universal sign-language for live-composition. The language is comprised of over 1500 signs and allows a conductor/composer to sculpt a performance in real-time with improvising actors, musicians, dancers and visual artists. The technique was created by N.Y. composer Walter Thompson [http://www.soundpainting.com/walter-thompson/] beginning in the late 1970's for use with jazz musicians. It has evolved into a multidisciplinary language that is practiced in 35 countries across the world. Strike Anywhere is the preeminent performance group in the United States practicing SOUNDPAINTING. Strike Anywhere’s Artistic Director, Leese Walker [https://thetheatretimes.com/on-improvisation-soundpainting-and-artistic-community-a-conversation-with-leese-walker-the-founder-of-the-strike-anywhere-performance-ensemble/], was the first actress to be soundpainted and helped Thompson to adapt the language for theater. SA’s musicians have worked with Thompson since the 1980’s and are some of the most experienced SOUNDPAINTING PERFORMERS IN THE WORLD. Bring your instrument, wear comfortable clothes, come play! Voyeurs welcome! The primer starts promptly at 7!
