On Saturday, October 20 at 10 am, join Cary Institute's Kelly
Oggenfuss for an outdoor program exploring the ecology of Lyme
disease. Did you know that the Cary Institute's 2,000-acre research
campus is a field lab for studies on how environmental conditions
shape tick-borne disease risk? For more than two decades, our
researchers have been unraveling links among acorn production, small
mammal abundance, blacklegged ticks, and tick-borne disease. Small
mammal live-trapping, tree seed collection, and tick drag-sampling
will be demonstrated. Wear hiking shoes and long pants and bring
drinking water. The program will begin at the Cary East (Gifford
House) parking area, located at 2917 Sharon Turnpike (Rt 44) in
Millbrook, NY. Registration is required, as space is limited. The
program is family friendly.
