Dr. Gabbett's advanced _Training-Performance Puzzle Workshop_ offers a deeper dive into the factors that contribute to athlete wellbeing and elite performance. In this two-day workshop, participants will learn how to develop training programs so that athletes’ skill and physical performance hold up under the pressure and fatigue of competition. Participants will gain hands-on experience with wearable technology used by high performance programs, and also explore the differences in load capacity between adult and adolescent athletes. This workshop draws on the latest scientific information on training load, wearable technology, wellbeing, recovery, skill acquisition and physical demands while also providing ample opportunity for Q&A and to develop ‘real-world’ skills. With a combination of lectures, practical sessions, and group problem-solving activities, this workshop encourages group interaction and collaboration to solve the performance puzzle!  DAY 1  SESSION 1 (9:00am-10:00am) _The Training-Performance Puzzle_ _ _This session will provide an overview of the research on TRAINING LOAD, fitness, and injury and how these factors fit together to form the “PERFORMANCE PUZZLE” _(Lecture)_ _ _ SESSION 2 _Developing Load Capacity in Adolescent Athletes_ (10:00am-11:30am)  This session requires participants to work together to find ways to develop load capacity in adolescent athletes preparing to compete against elite senior international athletes _(Lecture and Group Problem-Solving Session)_ _ _ 11:30am-11:45am _Coffee Break and Networking_ SESSION 3 (11:45am-1:00pm) _Train the Way You Want to Play_ This session will explore what the best development programs have in common, and how coaches can plan sessions so that the skills and physical qualities developed in TRAINING HOLD UP UNDER COMPETITION PRESSURE _(Lecture)_ _ _ 1:00pm-2:00pm _Lunch Break and Networking_ SESSION 4 (2:00pm-5:00pm) _Monitoring with Microtechnology_ Wearable technology is commonly used by professional and recreational athletes. This session will investigate the latest developments in wearable tracking, with participants learning how to use, interpret, and apply this information _(Lecture and Practical Session)_   SESSION 5 (5:00pm-5:30pm) _Final Wrap Up and Questions!_   DAY 2 SESSION 6 (9:00am-11:00am) _Heart Rate Variability_ This session will provide an overview of the theory behind heart rate variability and how this technology can be applied in practice _(Lecture and Practical Session)_ _ _ 11:00am-11:15am _Coffee Break and Networking_ SESSION 7 (11:15am-12:45pm) _Wellbeing and Recovery_ This session explores the evidence behind wellbeing scales to monitor TRAINING ADAPTATIONS AND RECOVERY. Various strategies used to enhance recovery will also be discussed _(Lecture)_ _ _ 12:45pm-1:45pm _Lunch Break and Networking_ SESSION 8 (1:45pm-4:45pm) _Building a Program from the Ground Up!_ In this session, participants are required to use their knowledge of periodization, to develop micro-, meso-, and macrocycles for their sport of choice _(Group Problem-Solving Session)_ _ _ SESSION 9 (4:45pm-5:00pm) _Final Wrap Up and Questions!_   TARGET AUDIENCE This workshop is relevant to physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and physical therapy students, chiropractors, strength and conditioning coaches and athletic trainers.    CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS This workshop is approved for the following Continuing Education Units (CEUs): NSCA (for Strength and Conditioning Coaches) - 1.4 CEUs (14 hours) NYPTA (for Physical Therapists) - 16.5 hours   METHODS OF LEARNING This workshop uses a combination of lectures, focus groups, roundtable discussion, practical sessions, formal and informal question and answer sessions to enhance learning.   INFORMED CONSENT All practical components that involve physical activity are completely voluntary.
