New York artist Kendra Morris recalls singers who straddled soul and
rock during the early '70s, such as Ruth Copeland and Chaka Khan. Her
taste was developed through a library heavy on late-60s and early-70s
soul and funk as well as a love for the cinema scores of the same
period. After touring with Motown Funk Brother Dennis Coffey and
releasing a series of singles that she did with collaborator and
bandmate Jeremy Page including "Concrete Waves," with a b-side remix
by DJ Premier, Morris released the album Banshee followed by a covers
album Mockingbird on Wax Poetics records.
Banshee and Mockingbird received much acclaim, a cult following and
several film + tv placements. Title track "Banshee" was used
prominently in the Showtime hit series Ray Donovan while her cover of
Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was featured in the trailer
for major motion picture Dead Man Down starring Noomi Rapace and Colin
Farrell. Around this time Kendra was awarded the Songwriters Hall Of
Fame 'Holly Prize'.
2013 Morris worked on a side project band with friends Scarlett
Johansson, Julia Haltigan and Holly Miranda. With Este Haim joining on
drums and TV On The Radios' Dave Sitek producing.
Returning with 'Babble' in 2016 to positive reviews and more media
placements she continued working on her catalogue as well began an
added focus on her love of creating multimedia art and connecting it
to her own sonic universe. Having been doing collage art and stop
motion animation a handful of years for her own albums and videos she
wound up in the directors chair and animating the 2018 music video
Bomb Thrown for the popular hip hop supergroup Czarface / MF DOOM
record 'Czarface Meets Metal Face' and soon following up with videos
for other fellow musicians including Eli Paperboy Reed, UKs Skinshape
and Chuck Prophet to name a few.
Morris recently released music that includes features by Greg Nice of
Nice & Smooth as well as DâM-FunK. She was featured on both Czarface
Meets Metalface and Czarface Meets Ghostface albums and her song "If
You Didn't Go' was sampled on the Rapsody & J Cole song 'SoJourner'
produced by 9th Wonder.
With new material and collaborations on the way, a string of small
tours, and directing more visual projects for herself and others;
Kendra has a lot to look forward to.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Nikara Warren describes herself
as being bathed in music and the arts since birth. As the product of a
musical family (her maternal grandfather is NEA jazz master and
pianist, Kenny Barron), Nikaras sound is a direct reflection of her
familys jazz, hip-hop and dancehall roots. Its only natural that
Nikara makes rump-shaker music with an emphasis on dancing.
Nikaras vibraphone playing would eventually earn her a scholarship to
Berklee College of Music, where she would study music business, and
eventually land a job in the copyright and special marketing
departments at Warner Chappell and Sony Music.
Feeling disconnected from her musical roots caused the inception of
Nikaras premiere project. Black Wall Street is a set of feel-good
tracks designed as an ode to Black Excellence to counteract the
emotional trauma caused by news headings of Black men and women being
slain by police. Nikara draws from many forms of Black music and
brings awareness to the Black Wall Street massacre of 1921 while
remaining positive about the future and emphasizing the positive
effects of diversity in the arts.

THE HUM
BANDCAMP [https://sneaks.bandcamp.com/]
Just as she takes up space in the male-dominated BaltimoreWashington
metropolitan area punk scene, Sneaks aka Eva Moolchan takes up space
among the patriarchy. Highway Hypnosis, her forthcoming album on Merge
Records that will drop in January, plays on hip-hop, post-punk, and
invented words to fill a gap between the feminist underground and
genre-specific singles charts. Through it, Moolchan joins the
resistance forged by queer black feminists who create, explore,
empower, conquer, and play bass.
The solo act, born with Pluto in Scorpio, released her first single
Beliefs in September. The glimmering anthem shrouded in an atmosphere
of darkness drops its beat along with a call to arms for all
non-believers whose mantra is assigned: Remove your beliefs and start
again / cause all I wanna do is start again. Flashes of Robyn, Britney
Spears, Jock Jams, Nirvana, recess hour on the blacktop, M.I.A., Lil
Mama, a hacky sack circle, Aaliyah, and your first Warped Tour
experience somehow all make sense inside the mind attached to ears
experiencing Highway Hypnosis. Between responsibility, laughter
samples, and charming vocals lies one club banger, your little sisters
anti-meat school lunch protest song, a 55-second epic bass surprise,
and a lot of sincerity.
Like a piece of art with as many interpretations as people who view
it, Sneaks music is kaleidoscopic, completely unique to the
listenerand live, its even more unassuming. On a tour with Spoon in
the spring of last year to support It's a Myth, Sneaks served Boca Mag
with a bizarre punk-hop set by an emerging artist on Merge Records
whose ability to divide the room was a thing of experimental beauty.
The best part? Inclusivity is at the heart of Sneaks, and all are
welcome to her galaxy...but only the woke will find the wormhole.
