_A LIFE BEHIND BARS_, THE AWARD WINNING AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL SOLO WORK OF
BROOKLYN ACTOR AND PLAYWRIGHT, DAN RUTH, COMES TO THE LOFT AT CITY
WINERY ON APRIL 1, 2019 AT 8PM (DOORS OPEN AT 7PM).
Fermented in
over two decades of booze, bars and gentrification, A Life BEHIND BARS
IS A HILARIOUS AND SEEDY TOUR-de-force roller coaster ride of
after-hour WHISKEY SHOTS, horror films and rock and roll, and an
unapologetic, darkly funny look at what can happen when you reach for
the stars and grab for the bottle instead. The black comedy is the
critically lauded 2018 winner of the NYC MAC Award for Spoken Word,
NYC 2018 Bistro Award winner for Best Solo Show and 2018 Producer’s
Encore award winner from the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Ruth’s
longtime collaborator, Tanya Moberly, directs A Life BEHIND BARS.
Ruth shares his experiences of slinging booze through comedic
monologues, interwoven with characters he's encountered while working
and drinking in the bars and dives of pre-gentrification, pre-Rudy
Giuliani Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Manhattan, including The Brooklyn
Ale House, Curtain Up and Danny’s Skylight Room.
THE LOFT AT CITY WINERY is located at 155 Varick Street, NYC 10013, on
the second floor. Phone: 212.608.0555. Tickets are $15 online and $20
at the door. CITY WINERY is easy to reach. Go here for a map and info

What the critics say about A Life Behind Bars:
“A Tour de Force Black Comedy." – QLife, Los Angeles
"A Life BEHIND BARS DEFTLY AND RAUCOUSLY INTERWEAVES THE GALLOWS
HUMOR AND POIGNANT INSIGHTS LEARNED FROM TWO DECADES ON BOTH SIDES OF
NEW YORK BARS, all while illuminating the universality of his spirited
life. Don’t miss out on this clever and vulnerable show.” –
Pittsburgh in the Round
“Highly impressed by the alternately hilarious and despondent
Dan Ruth in ‘A Life Behind Bars.’ ” Brad Schreiber of Huffington
Post
“A funny, wet your pants show...with an outstanding performer and
a comical but powerful message." - Theater Pizzazz
"A Life Behind Bars affords the opportunity to watch a gifted actor
flex his artistic muscles and mesmerize with a compelling story. An
actor of impressive dramatic and comedic strength."
