The BASIS Independent Brooklyn Math Clubs help foster a love for
mathematics and problem solving. At meetings, students are given
problems from past competitions to solve and discuss. This prepares
students for the many competitions throughout the year and teaches new
problem solving techniques that help students gain mathematical
insight. We will be preparing for MATHCOUNTS, and the AMC series by
reviewing problem sets. Lucy Snyder: Ms. Snyder is a Brooklyn Tech
math team alum, who in her senior year competed on the Senior A team
for NYCIML AND was voted prom queen. She continued her study of math
at Hunter College, where she also co-founded Macaulay’s first math
club (MATHaulay) and launched its first ever undergraduate math
research symposium. Matt Hughes: In his youth, Matt competed in local,
state, and national math competitions, occasionally taking first in
the US. He has graduate degrees in mathematics from Columbia
University, where he also taught math courses. He also has two young
children attending BASIS Independent Brooklyn.
