CP superstars Annie Rosen, Hannah Collins, and Arash Noori feature in Georg Friedrich Handel’s utterly striking solo cantata La Lucrezia. Handel's 1706 telling of the LUCRETIA LEGEND EXPLODES EARLIER BAROQUE TROPES, stretching the boundaries of harmony and structure to fully express LUCRETIA'S ANGER, shame, and rage. But her demands for vengeance from gods and demons alike go unanswered - a powerful vision of a struggle for justice that continues today. We are thrilled to introduce the incredible Iranian-American stage director and choreographer Shadi Ghaheri, who will be creating a stunning visual and dramatic world around our singers and players. The rest of the program spirals from the intensity of emotion and drama in the Handel: further retellings of the LUCRETIA STORY AND OTHER FASCINATING MUSICAL EXPLORATIONS VIOLENCE, vengeance, and justice, from Bunita Marcus, Ottorino Respighi, Joan Baez, Pietro Locatelli, Shirley Collins, and the 12th century poet-composers of the original Carmina Burana.
