On July 4, 1817, ground was broken for a 363-mile CANAL TO CARRY PEOPLE AND PRODUCTS FROM THE HUDSON RIVER AT ALBANY TO THE WESTERN FRONTIER IN BUFFALO. Using the diaries of early travelers, ledgers documenting ships and cargo, engineering schematics, maps, engravings, and photographs, this exhibition celebrates the early vision and modern expansions of what has been considered by some as the Eighth Wonder of the World.
