If you would like to donate please use this donation option under
tickets. If you intend to participate in the walk, please register at
KARENSWALK.org before purchasing your ticket. Karen's Walk is hosted
by Phi Sigma Pi and began over 13 years ago when Karen Decker, a close
friend of the fraternity passed away from postpartum cardiomyopathy
(PPCM), a rare heart disease that affects mostly pregnant women.
Karen was only 22 years old and she left behind her six-week-old
daughter, Hannah. In the beginning, Phi Sigma Pi created the Walk for
Hannah, meant to raise money toward a college fund for Hannah.
The Walk for Hannah subsequently became Karen's Walk, and has since
raised over $25,000 for cardiomyopathy research.
2016 marks the 14th Annual Karen's Walk.
This year, our goal is to attract at least 100 participants and raise
$2000. In addition to meeting our fundraising goal, we hope that the
5K will raise awareness for cardiomyopathy, as it affects the lives of
many.
It is also Phi Sigma Pi's goal to promote exercise and the practice of
living a healthy lifestyle on campus and in the Rochester community.
Karen's Walk is entirely student run and our cause is something that
Phi Sigma Pi is extremely passionate about.
