Join acclaimed multimedia artist and the 2025 MAG Gala Artist Honoree Sanford Biggers in conversation and discover his influences and artistic process, which he calls “conceptual patchworking.” Timothy Peterson, MAG’s Ann and Irving Norry Curator of Contemporary Art, will lead the dialogue.
Sanford Biggers explores often-overlooked aesthetic, cultural, historical, and political narratives through his use of textiles, painting, sculpture, performance, and video. His creative method of transposing, combining, and juxtaposing ideas, forms, and genres into artworks offers new understandings of collective mythologies and traditions. His nine-foot sculpture, Oracle, anchors MAG’s Centennial Sculpture Park.
Biggers’s work has been exhibited internationally and nationally in prestigious institutions, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Studio Museum in Harlem, Tate Modern, and Whitney Museum of American Art, and is held in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and Smithsonian American Art Museum, among others.
