Comics & Music - Rochester, NY 2025

Description for students ages 12-18 Join master musician and graphic artist Dave Chisholm, writer/artist for the graphic novels Chasin' the Bird: Charlie Parker in California, Instrumental as well as the comic-book series Canopus, in a wonderful exploration of the intersection of cartooning and musical sound. Students will participate in some general light-to-medium formal/structural/narrative/lyric analysis of choice pieces of music and then create comics informed by the musical selections. Required materials: either pencil and paper or a tablet or iPad pro with digital drawing functionality. At the end of the two weeks, participants will have created a short comic interpretation of their favorite song!
