Jean Darmer's works feature a style of painting known as Theorem Painting Technique. A style made popular in Colonial America taught to young ladies in particular. The technique includes dividing the desired picture into parts to make a stencil for each basic shape. From here, each part is shaded to form an actual painting. Many overlays are cut for each picture according to the degree of intricacy of each subject. Darmer works mainly in acrylics, using a variety of surfaces from watercolor paper to fabric.
